Gambero Rosso
Gambero Rosso is the worlds’ leading authority on Italian wine and gastronomy. It all began in 1986 with an insert in a daily newspaper, one year later the first Guida dei Vini (Wine Guide) went to print, the 1988 edition. Four decades later, the guide is now called Vini d’Italia (Italian Wines), renowned for the prestigious Tre Bicchieri (Three Glass) awards which identify the top 1% of wine. Beyond wine, the first Ristorante d’Italia guide was published in 1990, evaluating Italian restaurants and awarding the best with 1 to 3 Forchette ('forks'). The 2026 edition includes 2,580 venues, with only 55 receiving the coveted Tre Forchette (Three Forks) award. Since then, Gambero Rosso have cultivated a dynamic multimedia platform encompassing bar, coffee, olive oil, and food guides; books and magazines; alongside a robust calendar of international events promoting Italian wine and culinary culture on a global scale. In 1999, they launched Gambero Rosso TV, the first European channel devoted to wine. Since then, the Gambero Rosso Academy has become the largest training platform in Italy, offering tastings, events and education for both professionals and amateurs. Today, Gambero Rosso continues to set the standard in publishing, education, and the promotion of Italian wine and food worldwide.
Top Italian Restaurants
The Top Italian Restaurants guide has been mapping out the finest Italian dining worldwide since 2018. This digital guide showcases exceptional Italian restaurants, trattorias, wine bars, pizzerias, bakeries and notable wine lists. Now with more than 800 venues listed, it is the only international guide dedicated exclusively to Italian gastronomy, becoming an essential reference for Italians and Italophiles seeking quality Italian cuisine wherever they are. The guides curator Lorenzo Ruggeri has spent years in Italian kitchens and bars abroad, visiting an eye watering 300 establishments each year. Lorenzo and his team of collaborators seek out authentic Italian flavour, assessing the balance of the menu, quality and freshness of ingredients, clarity and combination of flavours, respect of ingredients, overall presentation, along with unique Italian creativity and genuine service. Great attention is always paid to the wine offering, because a true Italian experience cannot exist without a fine glass of wine. Venues are rated using the renowned Gambero Rosso iconographic system: fine dining up to 3 Forchetti (Forks), trattorias up to 3 Gamberi (Prawns), pizzerias up to 3 Spicchi (Slices), wine lists and bars up to 3 Bottiglie (Bottles) and bakeries up to 3 Cornetti (Cones).
