Gambero Rosso

Gambero Rosso is the worlds’ leading authority on Italian wine and gastronomy. It all began in 1986 with an insert in a daily newspaper, one year later the first Guida dei Vini (Wine Guide) went to print, the 1988 edition. Four decades later, the guide is now called Vini d’Italia (Italian Wines), renowned for the prestigious Tre Bicchieri (Three Glass) awards which identify the top 1% of wine. Beyond wine, the first Ristorante d’Italia guide was published in 1990, evaluating Italian restaurants and awarding the best with 1 to 3 Forchette ('forks'). The 2026 edition includes 2,580 venues, with only 55 receiving the coveted Tre Forchette (Three Forks) award. Since then, Gambero Rosso have cultivated a dynamic multimedia platform encompassing bar, coffee, olive oil, and food guides; books and magazines; alongside a robust calendar of international events promoting Italian wine and culinary culture on a global scale. In 1999, they launched Gambero Rosso TV, the first European channel devoted to wine. Since then, the Gambero Rosso Academy has become the largest training platform in Italy, offering tastings, events and education for both professionals and amateurs. Today, Gambero Rosso continues to set the standard in publishing, education, and the promotion of Italian wine and food worldwide.

Gambero Rosso TV

In 1999, the Gambero Rosso team launched Gambero Rosso TV, the first channel in Europe devoted entirely to wine (it is still the only one in the world). Today, they also feature food tours and cooking shows alongside wine specials hosted by Gambero Rosso’s wine editorial teams. Marco Sabellico (Senior editor of Vini d’Italia) has been a regular presenter on Gambero Rosso TV since the early days, producing a number television programs, of which he is the author and presenter, including "Le Grandi Cantine", and "Stappa con Gambero Rosso". Giuseppe Carrus (Editor of Vini d’Italia) has also appeared on Gambero Rosso TV since 2020, hosting Italian wine specials and his very own “La Mia Sardegna”, a journey through Sardinia.

Gambero Rosso Academy

Gambero Rosso Academy is more than just a school, it has grown to become the largest professional training platform in Italy. This currently includes 5 operational locations (Citta del Gusto) throughout Italy (in Lecce, Naples, Palermo, Rome and Turin). Each location offers a diverse range of programmes, from events and tastings, cooking classes and training for amateurs, through to professional courses in wine, gastronomy, journalism and culinary arts.

Gambero Rosso University is the first university for agri-food, catering, hospitality and tourism, offering advanced training for wine professionals, in management, communications, sustainability and food technology, There’s also joint ventures with major Italian universities and academies in the most important foreign countries abroad. The Academy also offers the Italian production system an exclusive program of business to business promotional events to foster its constant international development.

Vini d’Italia

Known globally as the “Italian Wine Bible”, Vini d’Italia has been published annually by Gambero Rosso since 1987. The 2026 edition is the result of extraordinary work by a team of more than 60 tasters who travel the length and breadth of Italy, tasting over 40,000 wines to identify the finest. There are 24,000 wines reviewed this year, produced by 2,605 wineries. For each winery, the guide provides address and contact details, vineyard size (in hectares), production size (in bottles), type of viticulture (conventional, organic, biodynamic, or natural) plus information on visiting and purchasing wine. Technical details are interwoven with stories of the regions, wines, styles, and the winemakers behind them. Each label is accompanied by an average price and quality rating using Gambero Rosso’s renowned iconographic system. Ratings range from One Glass up to the coveted Three Glasses (Tre Bicchieri), the highest distinction and a symbol of excellence. This year, a record 508 wines were awarded the prestigious Tre Bicchieri, representing the top 1% of wine tasted for the guide. Vini d’Italia is the world’s best-selling Italian wine guide and considered an essential tool for both professionals and enthusiasts navigating the rich and complex landscape of Italian wine.

Tre Bicchieri

Judging for the Vini d’Italia guide begins each year in May, when bottles are collected via third-party organisations (consortia, regional wine shops and chambers) that guarantee anonymous and impartial work. The reviewing process is multi layered and all wines are tasted blind. For the first phase each wine is tasted by a panel of at least three people. Wines scoring above 72/100 enter the guide with Un Bicchiere (One Glass), those above 80/100 earn Due Bicchieri (Two Glasses). The best wines, achieving above 85/100 or more proceed to the final tastings held in Rome in July and August. The Tre Bicchieri panel consists of the Vini d’Italia editors (Giuseppe Carrus, Gianni Fabrizio and Marco Sabellico) with an expert from each region, plus a special collaborator (selected from MW’s and international journalists). Wines scoring over 90/100 earn Tre Bicchieri (Three Glasses), the rest will earn Due Bicchieri Rossi (Two Red Glasses). The Tre Bicchieri method makes no distinctions based on ideology, size or production, what's in the glass is all that matters. Participation in the guide is completely free for wineries; so the organisation is under no obligation to include a wine in the guide, even when it has been tasted. Nearly 40% of the wines submitted will fail to make it into the guide.
