    Marco Sabellico is a world-renowned Italian wine journalist, author, critic and sommelier. Now based in Rome, he was raised in a family with a tradition of wine production, so developed a passion for viticulture from a young age.

    In his early years, Marco worked on the Agricola movement, which was a precursor to Slow Food. Marco joined Gambero Rosso in 1990, and has been the Senior Editor for the prestigious Vini d'Italia guide since 2010.

    Beyond editing the guide, Marco has also edited the monthly magazine and produced television series for Gambero Rosso TV, including “Le Grandi Cantine” and Stappa con Gambero Rosso”. He has authored numerous monographs on wine, oil, cocktails, and spirits for Gambero Rosso, and co-authored The New Italy an atlas of Italian wine, with Daniele Cernilli.

    Marco has conducted more than 500 guided tastings and masterclasses worldwide, and is frequently involved in evaluating top Italian restaurants and wine lists on a global scale.

    Marco is recognised internationally for his expertise in Italian wines, in 2024 he was honoured with the inaugural VinItaly “Wine Critics Award”, which he dedicated to his colleagues at Gambero Rosso.

  • Lorenzo Ruggeri

    DIRECTOR GAMBERO ROSSO | CHIEF EDITOR

    Lorenzo Ruggeri is a Roman based journalist and wine critic. At only 39 years old, he was born in Rome with Sicilian roots from the Etna area.

    Lorenzo joined Gambero Rosso in 2008, completing the journalism masters program at the Gambero Rosso Academy in Rome. Since 2009 Lorenzo has been the youngest taster on the Gambero Rosso Vini d’Italia wine guide panel.

    Since TBC, Lorenzo has been at the helm of international content, curating the Top Italian Restaurants Guide showcasing top Italian restaurants and wine lists from across the globe. Lorenzo is curious and selective, having spent the last 5 years of his life in Italian kitchens and bars abroad, visiting over 300 restaurants each year.

    His international experience includes travelling with Gambero Rosso’s world tours, hosting tastings and masterclasses, as well as judging in wine competitions abroad. In June 2024,

    Lorenzo was appointed as the company’s Director and Chief Editor, where he expressed his desire to “Strengthen the authority of Gambero Rosso in Italy and worldwide, by renewing its style and language and making our editorial content even more impactful.”

    He is passionate about pizza and artisanal wines, and is instantly recognisable from his distinctive style, always completed with a signature hat.

  • Giuseppe Carrus

    EDITOR VINI D’ITALIA | SOMMELIER | WINE MARKETER

    Giuseppe is an Italian sommelier and journalist, restaurateur and wine marketing professional.

    Born on the mediterranean island of Sardinia amongst good food and wine, Giuseppe studied communications at Cagliari university, including a thesis on the language of food guides, completed his sommelier diploma and the Gambero Rosso Masters program.

    He is the editor of Vini d’Italia (Italian Wines) guide, responsible for selecting their annual Tre Bicchieri award winners with co-curators Marco Sabellico and Gianni Fabrizio.

    Giuseppe spends half the year critiquing wine for the guide and writing about the Italian wine. The other half is spent travelling with Gambero Rosso’s world tours, hosting tastings, masterclasses and promoting Italian wine and food. He also contributes to the Top Italian Restaurants Guide, showcasing the world’s best Italian restaurants.

    He’s also been featured on Gambero Rosso TV since 2020, hosting Italian wine specials and his very own “La Mia Sardegna”, a journey through Sardinia.

    Beyond wine, Giuseppe is passionate about beer, spirits and cocktails, whatever the setting, you’ll always find him with a glass in hand and a good story to tell.
